Generation of Academic Leaders (GOAL) - Mentoring Program
GOAL is an SAF initiative that connects university and college students with pupils in underserved primary schools in Accra, providing one-on-one or one-on-two academic and emotional support. Each mentor becomes a “big brother” or “big sister,” helping children feel seen, encouraged, and supported — making a real difference in their educational journey.
Mentors visit the children’s schools once a week for dedicated sessions, offering guidance with schoolwork, building confidence, and serving as positive role models. For the children, this means improved academic performance, greater motivation to learn, and the reassurance that someone believes in them and their future.
The program also nurtures essential life skills in the children — such as self-esteem, resilience, and social confidence — giving them tools that extend far beyond the classroom.
At the same time, university students gain valuable experience in leadership, empathy, and social responsibility. In recognition of their commitment, SAF provides financial support to help mentors pursue their own education.
